Dress During Namaaz

While offering namaaz mumineen should be well-dressed in white loose clothes with jabbo , lengo and topi and mumenaat should be dressed in such a manner that it should cover her entire body, preferably rida . Rasoolullaah (SAWS) has said: ‘The prayers of a girl who has reached puberty are not accepted unless she has a head covering.'

Rasoolullaah (SAWS) did not approve of women offering their prayers without wearing any ornaments. He said: ‘A woman should never pray unless she is wearing some ornament, at least a ring or an earring, if not more. A woman should never pray without applying “mehdi” .

Maulana Ali (AS) has said: “Rasoolullaah (SAWS) has directed me to command women never to pray without wearing ornaments. If they possess absolutely no jewelry, let them at least have a thread or a leather belt tied round their necks. They should apply “mehdi” to their hands or some aromatic paste to the tips of their fingers, and never should they leave their palms like those of the men, that is, without pigmentation.” They need not decorate their palms with different designs of “mehdi”.

Imaam Ja'far us-Saadiq (AS) prohibited the worshipper from prostrating himself on the sleeve or on some part of his clothes or on the edge of his turban, and directed that the hands be taken out from the sleeves during prayers and that they be placed on the bare earth or anything else used for prostration.

In no case should, both men and women expose their private parts during prayers. They should cover the exposed part as soon as they become aware of it. Woman should preferably wear relatively thick cloths during prayers so that the entire body, from the head to foot is covered up completely. Rasoolullaah (SAWS) has said: “The man who is dressed scantily during prayers should not expect that Allaah would provide clothes for him.”
