"Wa Qole'malu fasayarallaaho amalakum wa rasoolohu wal muminoon" - And say : Act righteously, soon Allaah will observe your action (deed) and His Rasool and Believers (A'immat-e-aal-e-Mohammad (sa))

  Part - I

The literal meaning of the word Hadees” or Hadith is a speech, talk, conversation or chitchat. When we talk about Hadees-e-Nabawi then it means the words or the sayings of authority or representative of Allaah – Rasoolullaah (saws). The ashaab (companion, members) of Rasoolullaah (saws) who have seen him telling the verses or words and have conveyed it unchanged and unaltered to the other people during or after the lifetime of Rasoolullaah (saws) are only called as Hadees-e-Nabawi . After the demise of Rasoolullaah (saws) there was a group of cursed and evil people who claimed to be the true believers and advocates of Rasoolullaah (saws). But their hearts were deviated from the enlightened path of Taa'at (obedience) and devoid of the divine guidance of Allaah. Though they grasped and learned the Hadees-e-Nabawi in the presence of Rasoolullaah (saws) but Allaah sealed their intellect and heart with ignorance and hypocrisy. These were the people who distorted and misrepresented the Hadees-e-Nabawi by adding their own decadent and depraved interpretation to it and translated to others. This was the crucial and critical time for the believers because they were easily gullied and confused by the reprobates and wrongdoers. There was uprising of ignorance, innovations, conjectures and empty speculations in the community. Had these people taken the divine and heavenly knowledge from the Ahl ul-Bayt (as) or al-Khamsat ul-Athaar they would never have left the path of Noor of Allaah. But alas! To their misfortune and adversity they were destined as the fuel of the fire of the Hell. Indeed, the members of the family of Rasoolullaah (saws) are well aware and know about the framework and the traditions of the family. Maulaana Ali (as), Maulaatana Faatema (as), Imaam Hasan (as), Imaam Husain (as) and their Aal-e-Athar (sa) (progeny) who are the Ahl ul-Bayt (as) only know how and where did Rasoolullaah (saws) spent his life. The people who left this Siraat Mustaqeem are the ones on whom Allaah sends His blight and curse and they are the dwellers of the Hell.

The Daur us-Satr (era or period of veil) is the time in which the Hujjat of Allaah – true knowledgeable person or an authority is ill treated and tyrannized. In spite of knowing his status and rank, people do not recognize him and he is beleaguered and besieged. Moments after the demise of Rasoolullaah (saws), the people overlooked and neglected his declaration and announcement at Ghadeer-e-Khumm where he appointed and assigned Maulaana Ali (as) as his Wasi and Maulaa of the people after him. They were driven by their own speculations and thought about whom to appoint after Rasoolullaah (saws). Is it acceptable that Rasoolullaah (saws) who promulgated the Deen of Allaah did not appoint any successor after him in his lifetime? Is it possible? No it can never be… Wandering and drifting aimlessly in the darkness of negligence and inadvertence, their eyes did not see the enlightened and blissful path of Ahl ul-Bayt (as). They appointed fatuous, inane and imprudent fellows as their leaders who even had no basic knowledge of Halaal and Haraam . Just as the earlier communities did not accept the Da'wat of their Ambiyaa and followed the crooked path of hyrocrites and shaitaan, Rasoolullaah (saws) addressed to the people and said, “Surely you will imitate the deeds of the earlier people to that extent that if they enter in to hole of the bees you will still follow them”.

Rasoolullaah (saws) has said that my community will be divided into 73 sects or groups and among all of them; the one with the few followers will be on truth, genuineness and divinity which will get deliverance and redemption. All the remaining groups will remain in the state of ignorance and mendacity. Those who recognized the rank of Maulaana Ali (as) by accepting him on the position of Wasi after Rasoolullaah (saws) and believed in the progression of A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) from his progeny have the glory of real Imaan in their hearts. Certainly they will get Najaat (salvation). Rasoolullaah (saws) also proclaimed that “I am happy with those people who have followed my sunnat and obeyed me; even though they are few in number”. He has also said that my ashaab are like stars and the one who makes them his leader will get knowledge and guidance. Rasoolullaah (saws) has clearly and openly remarked about the people who have modified and changed the Hadees-e-Nabawi and linked those false and forged sayings to him that unquestionably they will make their permanent place in the Hell. Most important and fundamental Hadees that Rasoolullaah (saws) said is that, ‘O people of the community! I have left behind two precious and heavenly things in between you – Qur'an and Ahl ul-Bayt (as) . You will never deviate from the right path till you follow them. These two things will never get separated from each other till they will meet me at the Hauz-e-Kausar .

The Hadees-e-Nabawi is mentioned at different places in the books of Da'wat. The Du'aat ul –Ezaam (aq) have comprehended them and included in their bayaan and taqreer. A huge book can be compiled if we try to write each Hadees separately. The book named as Kitaab ush-Shihaab in-Nabawi which is there in the library of Da'wat has the collection of about 1200 authentic Ahaadees (pl. Hadees). The conclusion behind the truth of Ahaadees is that the selected Ashaab of Rasoolullaah (saws) which in one sense are only the Ahl ul-Bayt (as) and A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) who got the knowledge of the sayings of Rasoolullaah (saws) in the bequest. This knowledge was protected and guarded as the precious treasure by A'immat-e-Taahereen (as). They are Maa'soom (inviolable) and passed on this knowledge to the people as if Rasoolullaah (saws) is talking to them. The Aqwaal (words) and Af'aal (deeds, actions) of the Rasoolullaah (saws) were carried over from one heart to other, from father to son till the beginning of the succession of Du'aat ul-Mutlaqeen (aq) in which the Ne'mat (favor or bounty) of Ahaadees is still preserved in its original form by the divine help and guidance of Imaam uz- Zamaan (as). Hence this ‘Ilm (knowledge) and Noor (glory) of Ahaadees has descended from Rasoolullaah (saws) in the A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) and Du'aat-e-Keraam (aq) by the propagation of Nass-e-jali (open appointment) or Nass-e-khafi (appointment among selected ashaab) . Whatever the Imaam (as) or Da'i (aq) says in their lectures is the mirror image of what had been said by Rasoolullaah (saws). It is accurate in the words, deep in the foundation, clear and supreme in the meaning – as it was originally been said. How could they get the true knowledge of Ahaadees who did not follow the godly succession of A'immat-e-Taahereen (as)? Their faith and belief is based on the porous, weak and false foundation of the words of people who are the open enemies of Aal-e- Mohammad (sa). They are execrated and abhorred by Allaah and are inhabitants of the Hell.

Part II

Ahl ul-Bayt (as) has unfolded the Zaahiri (evident, open) and Baatini (hidden) meanings, Tafseer (exposition), Ta'weel (interpretation) and facts of the Qur'an by blending it with the knowledge of Ahaadees. They used to deliver the lectures to educate and teach mumineen and warn them about the attacks of hypocrites. Mumineen purified their hearts from this ‘Ilm and their deeds reached to new heights of obedience and devotion. A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) themselves have compiled, assembled and written the books on the Ahaadees so that its essence and core remain unchanged. Every Hujjat of Allaah in his time gets the essence of ‘Ilm-e-Ladunni (the divine knowledge) by the grace and guidance of Allaah and his each word is in accordance with what was told by Rasoolullaah (saws). Therefore, for a Isma'ili Faatemi Taiyebi mumineen there is no question whether the Hadees is right or wrong since it is being narrated unmodified from the aal- progeny of Rasoolullaah (saws). The words of the Imaam are the words of Nabiullaah (saws) and no one can challenge the authenticity of the same.

The Isma'ili Taiyebi Faatemi mumineen are continuously under the attack from various groups who have cropped up in the recent times. Though these groups existed from the earlier time but today they have started infecting our mumineen with the disease of hypocrisy and disbelief. Among them is the group which considers itself as the Ahl-e-Hadees (people of Hadees). Suddenly these digressed and diverged people have exalted themselves with their bogus and forged knowledge. Where were these disbelievers for all 1400 years if they consider themselves as the true followers of Rasoolullaah (saws)? It is nothing but their utter foolishness and stupidity that they have started framing the so called Hadees which have never been read till now. Some of them even boast themselves by quoting from the Saheeh Hadees written by the people of Hell in the earlier time. Undoubtedly, the Raasekhoona fil ‘ilm and the faithful know how crooked and doctored the account of these books is. No one except the Ahl ul-Bayt (as) and A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) shares the status of Raasekhoona fil ‘ilm. Laa'nat (curse) of Allaah is on him who proclaims to belong to this spiritual status. Who has given them authorization to write the words of Rasoolullaah (saws)? These ostensible ‘Ulamaa used to coerce the innocent people with their false knowledge and became the leaders. They were students of Imaam Ja'far us-Saadiq (as) but disgracefully they forgot the guidance and teaching of Imaam (as). Instead they altered and distorted the teachings and translated it to the people with different meanings. Their fraudulence and deceitfulness climbed new heights and dragged them to the door of Hell when they pronounced themselves to be Imaam. As long as they would have remained under the leadership and blessings of Ameer ul-Mumineen Ali (as); as long as they would have decreed the status of Wasaayat to Maulaana Ali (as); as long as they would have grasped the knowledge from A'immat-e-Taahereen (as), they would have never deviated from Siraat Mustaqeem and Hablullaahil Mateen . Never ever had the question would arise about the truthfulness of Hadees.

“Tamassakna be Hablillaahe jahran, be aydeena wa sirran bil Imaami.”

‘We have held the Hablillaahil Mateen openly in front of you (Da'iyullaah) and secretly we have held the bay'at of Imaam uz-Zamaan (as).'

In the second century A.H., when the Zaahiri non-Shi'i group divided into four sects our succession of Faatemi A'immat-e-Mastooreen (as) existed in the istitaar- seclusion and they were aware about the differences in these people. Even in such a hostile environment our A'immat ul-Hodaa (as) continued to promulgate their truthfulness and divinity with the help of Du'aat ul-Balaagh (aq). Taking the advantage of the seclusion of Faatemi A'immat (as) the Zaahiri people and their strayed groups manipulated and modified the Ahaadees according to their convenience and requirements. They then relied upon the collections of Ahaadees which had no relation with the authenticity and approval of A'immat-e-Taahereen (as). These compilations ran into six books namely:

  • Sahih Bukhaari, collected by al-Bukhaari (870 AD), included 7275 Ahaadees.
  • Sahih Muslim, collected by Muslim bin Hajjaaj (875 AD), included 9200 Ahaadees.
  • Sunan as-Sughraa, collected by an-Nasaa'i (915 AD).
  • Sunan abi-Dawood, collected by Abu Dawood (888 AD).
  • Sunan at-Tirmeezi, collected by at-Tirmeezi (892 AD).
  • This one is disputed. Sometimes it is referred to Al-Mowatta, collected by Maalik bin Uns (796 AD) and sometimes it is referred to as Sunan ibn Majaah, collected by Ibn Majaah (886 AD). Some people even consider Sunan az-Zaraami to be the sixth one.

All six collectors of these Ahaadees lived in Persia or Khuraasaan except Maalik bin Uns who is from Hijaaz. Some were ethnically Persian, such as Bukhaari and Ibn Majaah, while others were ethnically ‘Arab, such as Muslim and Tirmeezi. They pronounced these books to be canonical and standard books of the Hadees. The original compilation of Bukhaari did contain the Ahaadees explaining the importance of Ahl ul-Bayt (as) as the divine authority of Allaah. But as the dissensions cropped up among the so called leaders after Imaam Ja'far us-Saadiq (as) these Ahaadees were omitted from the book. Our Faatemi A'immat-e-Mastooreen (as) i.e. 8 th Imaam Maulaana Abdullaah - 9 th Imaam Maulaana Ahmad – 10 th Imaam Maulaana Husain (as), were aware of all these changes within the community.

To protect and shield the mumineen from all these attacks and insurgence and to establish the truthfulness and candor of our Isma'ili aamaal and philosophy the 9 th Imaam-e-Mastoor Maulaana Ahmad (as) wrote 53 epistles popularly called as Rasaail-e-Ikhwaan us-Safaa. These Rasaa'il contained the argument and contentions proving the exactitude of Isma'ilism. It established the lineage of Isma'ili knowledge of Taaweel (esotericism) and Tafseer (exegesis) to A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) and uprooted the claims of non believers that Isma'ili philosophy has been guided by the Platonic philosophy.

The pages of Rasaail-e-Ikhwaan us-Safaa were displayed openly in the mosques by the order of Mastooreen (as) to convey the message of truth, actuality and uprightness to the people and to prove how the previous mentioned books of Ahaadees are incorrect, fabricated and deceptive prepared by non-Isma'ili groups. The main purpose in displaying the pages of the Rasaa'il was to convey to the people that the succession of A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) is still existing and prevailing on the face of the earth.

The Khutbah (sermons), Rasaa'il (epistles) and the sayings of Maulaana Ali Ameer ul-Mumineen (as) expounds and elucidates the words of Rasoolullaah (saws). Saiyed Shareef Razi compiled the sermons and the epistles of Maulaana Ali (as) and the compilation came to be popularly known as Nahj ul-Balaagah . We find the account of this book in the selected manuscripts of Da'wat.

It should never be forgotten that the words of Rasoolullaah (saws) and Maulaana Ali (as) are underneath the words of Allaah and above the words of the people. It is the matter of pride for us that before Saiyed Shareef Razi compiled Nahj ul-Balaagah, Saiyedna Qaazi No'maan bin Mohammad (aq) quoted the important sermons and lectures of Maulaana Ali (as) in the books Da'aaim ul-Islaam, Kitaab ut-Tawheed and other extra ordinary works during the time of 14th Imaam Maulaana Mo'iz (as). This work has never been done by any scholar in the earlier time and for us this is the living example of the authenticity and indisputability of Faatemi Imaamat.

Saiyedna Qaazi No'maan bin Mohammad (as) who authored the book Kitaab Ikhtelaaf Usool il- Mazaahib admonishes in the numerous occasions that, “Carry out what Maulaana Ali (as) has entrusted to you of it, executing and enforcing rights; prescribing the Hudood (punishment by Shari'at) on those deserving of it, being exacting and severe with a tyrant, aiding justice, and helping the oppressed and sorrowful and fortifying the weak. In all your decisions and judgements, you should follow the Qur'an. If you neither find in the Qur'an nor any decision in the words of Rasoolullaah (saws), search it in the creeds of the pious, pure and well guided A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) from the progeny of Rasoolullaah (as). They are those with whom Allaah has preserved the matters of His deen, to whom Allaah has entrusted the treasure of His knowledge and the secrets of His revelations. He has created them guides for the mumineen and made them the magnificence and brilliance on this earth. They are the radiance in the darkness to save from the bewilderment of blindness and gloom of destruction. They are the model path and they are to be followed in matters, religious and mundane.”

Allaah has clearly indicated everything that man stands in need of in the Qur'an; and in case he failed to understand he was commanded to refer the matter to the Rasoolullaah (saws) in his lifetime and if it comes after his lifetime then he should refer it to those who were possessed of the authority and Ulul Amr . Ulul Amr are those possessed of the authority no other but the A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) from the progeny of Rasoolullaah (saws). They were the only people after Rasoolullaah (saws) divinely equipped to guide the people through Qur'an.
Part III

Sayings of Rasoolullaah (saws) are nothing less than precious and valued jewels of knowledge and guidance for us. The treasure of this ‘Ilm-e-Ladunni (deific knowledge) passed over from Rasoolullaah (saws) to Maulaana Ali (as) and then in his pious progeny A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) largely in the form of divine legacy and fatemi inheritance. It is the bounty and blessings of Allaah that He has created us in the group of the true believers (mumineen) who are the followers of Ahl ul Bayt (as), and are under the shadow of divinity and oneness of His knowledge; which will ultimately lead us to the Paradise.

It is this ilaahi knowledge which we are decreed upon to bow down and prostrate – as it leads towards the oneness of Allaah. It is this knowledge that protects us from the conflagration of the Hell. It is through this knowledge that we transform ourselves into a spiritual being (angels – Malaa'ikat ) from the existence of the state of matter of this world. It is the glory and the power of this knowledge that anchors us to the Shari'at of Allaah and Siraat Mustaqeem. No human mind, words, imagination and actions could ever portray the vast expanse and abundance of the praise of Allaah; that he has included us in His chosen and treasured community – the true believers of Qur'an and Ahl ul-Bayt (as). The Rehmat (blessings, bounty) of Allaah in the form of His Da'wat , is always present for the mumineen on this earth. The devout succession of A'immat Taahereen (as) and Du'aat Akrameen (aq) is Rehmat of Allaah for us.

The people who were mendacious, deceitful and cursed; robbed the precious jewels of this heavenly knowledge and they usurped the rank and status of Maulaana Ali (as) who was a real guardian of the inheritance and the successor of Rasoolullaah (saws). Instead of following the words of Rasoolullaah (saws) they turned against his Sunnat-e-Uzmaa. They disobeyed the Hadees-e-Nabawi that said, “Qur'an and my Ahl ul Bayt (as) are the two precious things that I have given to my ummat. The one who will grasp them will enter in the Paradise.” The ignorant and misguided people only took hold of the Qur'an, the exterior and unexplained; and left behind the blessing and benediction of the love of Ahl ul Bayt (as), the interior, essence and the speech of the Qur'an. Verily their hearts are blackened and stamped with benightedness and nescience. They conned and swindled the uninformed and ignorant people from the truth who considered them on the authentic and deserved ranks. They went far in rebelliousness and defiance to the point of no return. Eventually, a majority of people started believing and following the usurpers and commandeers and left behind the true inheritors and heirs of the Ilaahi knowledge and Shari'at .

We shall quote an interesting parable here to clarify our contention. There was a kind and noble man who, by the grace of Allaah, possessed a variety of exquisite and priceless gems like sapphire, ruby, diamonds and emeralds. He was aware of the medicinal, spiritual and healing properties of the gems and he used his skills in treating a variety of diseases of the people. He never used to charge anything or accept anything as a reward from the people. His main intention was to benefit and help the people with his skills and knowledge.

His benevolence and philanthropy earned him fame and reputation in the whole locality within no time. Allaah showered His choicest blessings on him and soon he became popular in many other villages. Even the people from the far localities started approaching him. The distinction and prestige also led to jealousy and envy in some people who were on toes for grabbing his precious belongings. They approached him for help and the man was caught in their sophistry. They told him that they have come from a distant locality where many people are sick. They praised him for his skills in treating the sick people and requested him to keep trust and faith and hand over some gems to them. They agreed to follow his instructions about the use of gems in treating the people. They said that they will always remember his sacrifice of gems in the way of Allaah and pray for him. They offered anything of his choice in return of gems and conceded that they will come to him whenever he wishes.

The man was convinced and handed over some gems to those people with a promise to use them in treating the sick people in a right and honest way without any intention of reward, greed and money. After taking the gems they got separated and did not obey the words of the kind man. They used the gems in a wrong way for gaining fame and wealth and instead of treating the sick, they started cheating people. When that kindhearted man came to know about the evil deeds of those people he appointed some trustworthy, honest and responsible persons to take care of his gems. He told them that some people approached me for help and I had handed over some gems to them. But instead of giving benefit and advantage to the poor and sick people they have indulged in earning wealth and riches in the name of curative powers of gems. They have cheated me. They have given my gems to the undeserved and unfair people. Undoubtedly, with their foul intentions they will not be able to serve anything. The man said to the people who he appointed, to follow his instructions and go to that place and bring back his gems by any means. He taught them how to use the gems and explained all the tricks to them. Those trustworthy men went to acquire the lost gems as per the instructions of the kind man.

The evil people who took away the genuine gems from the kind man by cheating him for sake of gaining fame and riches played a very clever trick in their village. They made fake gems of glass and other common stones and proclaimed its healing powers among the people. The ignorant people got swayed and started purchasing fake gems from them. Whenever the people approached these charlatans without any result then they simply used to argue that, “You did not get any benefit of the gems because of your foul intentions.” In this way the fake healers became reputed as businessmen, bogus imams and wealthy people. Out of the assets and possessions earned in a wrong way from the people, they turned into dictators and tyrants.

When the trustworthy men, who were sent by that kind man, entered the village of these people and started promoting about the realness and genuineness of their gems, not a single person relied upon them. They found the fake gems of glass and stones in every house. They were not at all interested in knowing about the real healing powers of the gems those trustworthy men possessed. For this reason, the people of the village started avoiding and shunning them. Some of them knew that they have been cheated and equated the trustworthy men with the fake healers. To accomplish their task the trustworthy men invited a group of people from the village and explained them about the reality and how the fake healers bamboozled the kind man. All of them were convinced by the facts. They said the villagers that, “We are ready to undergo any test; you can test the veracity of our gems.” Soon, a majority of people accepted the reality of the trustworthy men.

When the fake healers came to know about these trustworthy men, they again started attracting the villagers. They displayed the few genuine gems to the villagers which were left with them. They accused the trustworthy men of being quacks and con artists. To put an end to the trail of dishonesty and deceitfulness, the trustworthy men decided to confront with the fake healers in front of the villagers. The fake healers placed their gems mixed with unreal ones near the genuine gems of the kind man. Such was the brilliance, luster and glow of the real gems that they attracted only the few genuine gems of the fake healers and left behind the heap of fake gems aside. Anger of the villagers knew no heights when they saw this incident. They started pelting stones and abusing the fake healers. They broke all relations with them. They greeted and complimented the trustworthy men who in turn used their true skills and knowledge and treated the sick, helped the needy and left from that place to return the gems to the kind man.

O mumineen, know the reality and fact that the kind man who was the true guardian and keeper of the gems is Rasoolullaah (saws). The gems are his sayings, wisdom and Hadees-e-Nabawi. The trustworthy men are A'immat-e-Taahereen (as) and Du'aat ul-Akrameen (aq), who are the mentor of the Ilaahi Da'wat. The fake healers are the ones who forged and manipulated the sayings of Rasoolullaah (saws) as per their personal aspirations. They are the cursed people who usurped the status of Wasaayat of Maulaana Ali (as) and declared themselves as bogus Caliphs. These are the people who have down trodden and subdued the echelon of Ahl ul-Bayt (as). The impostors who deceive people for their gains and misguide them to the wrong path also belong to this flock. In our time of Daur us Satr, Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) is the protector of the Ilaahi Da'wat and guides us to the righteous path of Rasoolullaah (saws) and A'immat-e-Taahereen (as). May Allaah prosper and succeed us in the shadow of His Da'wat.
Part IV

Ameer ul-Mumineen Maulaana Ali (as) has descirbed in detail in one of his lecture, as to what role different people has played, during the Rasoolullaah (saws)’s lifetime or after his demise, in trying to manipulate and distort his esteemed sayings which are called “Ahaadees-e-Nabawi”.

Salim bin Qais al-Hilaali who has related many incidents from Maulaana Ali Ameer ul-Mumineen (as) once asked Maula Ali (as) as to why people are disputing on the Hadees of Rasoolullaah (saws) when he has delivered his sayings before so many people and there was no question of any addition or deletion in it! Upon which Maulaana Ali said, "It is in the people’s hand, to practise the path of truth or falsehood, to utter truth or junk, to do lawful or unlawful things, to interpret the Qur’anic verses in its correct sense or take it as per their limited erring understanding.”  So much so that even the Rasoolullaah (saws) was not spared with allegations during his lifetime and he had to say in one of his sermons that, “If anybody deliberately censures me and name me with the words I have never uttered then his fate is definitely in Hell.”

Basically, there are only four catergories of people involved in transmitting and relating Ahaadees generations after generations and not a single more exists than this:

  • The first group was those hypocrites who had never embraced Islam or became believers in true sense but had done so out of compulsion, and were behaving like devout Muslims, like wolf in sheep’s clothing! They were openly committing sins without any remorse, and were not hesitating in uttering falsehood and blasphemy! They were relating those things with the name of Rasoolullaah (saws) which he had never said and the common ignorant masses believed them blindly.   Because they thought that those were the reverent companions (ashaab) of Rasoolullaah (saws) who had seen him personally; they were in his pious company; they had heard him in reality and imbibed the knowledge from him only. So the masses considered their references as truth without any question, doubt and hesitation. But the seekers of truth are always aware of their evil designs and manipulations which these hypocrites execute with their wits and sweet tongue! Moreover, the Qur’an has also criticized them for distorting the kalaam of Nabiyullaah.

After the demise of the Rasoolullaah (saws) these hypocrites got more freedom in propagating their evil designs of distortions and deviations especially in those Ahaadees which exalted the status or praised Ahl ul-Bayt (as) and they became the favourites of the real enemies of Islam and attained a dignified status. The subsequent caliphs and the usurper imaams (imaam uz-zalaal)who were bitter with the truthfulness of Ahl ul-Bayt (as) appointed them (hypocrites, munaafiqeen)as governors of different states which gave them more powers to control the masses with force especially targeting the devout mumineen. This resulted in total submission of masses according to their wishes and whims and it is known that people are in the habit of swaying along with the current rather than struggle to swim against it!

  • This second category is those who had heard the sayings of Rasoolullaah (saws) but could not remember correctly due to senility or inattentiveness or a casual approach! Moreover, they related this defective reference to others unknowingly thinking that what they said was in accordance with what Rasoolullaah (saws) uttered.  And it happened that many people followed them unknowingly, but those sensible people who realized the mistake did not consider their hadees to be authentic and worked upon to find the truth.

  • The third category compriseof those people who had heard Rasoolullaah (saws) pass an order to do something and then later Rasoolullaah (saws) passed an order not to do the same thing as per the divine instructions! Now it is possible that a person had heard either the first thing or the last thing and he related and implemented either of the command, although it was necessary for him to have paid attention to the totality of the hadees and not parts of it.  Those who followed them were utterly misguided towards distorted and incomplete Ahaadees.

  • The fourth category is of those muttaqi-God fearing, sincere people with reverence for the Rasoolullaah (saws) who were strong advocates of truth and who related from Rasoolullaah (saws) everything word by word without any deletion or addition! They interpreted and implemented the Ahaadees correctly when Rasoolullaah (saws) said it without diluting or concentrating it with their personal thoughts! In addition, even they related the circumstances under which the Ahaadees was said and with whom it was associated! These were the most reliable people who had conveyed the Ahaadees, but unfortunately, they were very few and were largely outnumbered by hypocrites!

There were two types of sayings of Rasoolullaah (saws).   One special (khaas) and the other common (aam)!

  • Now those sayings, which were common, has an easily understandable content were accepted easily and effortlessly by the masses!

  • But those special sayings if it were heard by a person who has no knowledge of basics and who has no wisdom or sagacity  as to what is the meaning of this saying of the Rasoolullaah (saws) (saw) will commit gross mistakes in not only relating them but also implementing them! It is as if a pen has been given to a woodcutter instead of axe!

In conclusion,  the central idea of this subject is that by describing the 4 categories of people who had related the Ahaadees of Rasoolullaah (saws), Maulaana Ali  Ameer ul-mumineen (as)  has described the first category of hypocrites who were wilfully hostile and jealous of Ahl ul-Bayt (as), who usurped their rightful  position after the intiqaal pur-malaal of Rasoolullaah (saws), who tortured and terrorised them, who contaminated the Shari’at with innovations, who did not accept the Walaayat and Wasaayat of Maulaana Ali (as), and even usurped the heritage and legacy of the Rasoolullaah (saws) bestowed on her beloved daughter Faatemat uz-Zahraa (as).  Thereafter, following these enemies came the cruel dynasties of Banu Umayyah, Banu Marwaan and Banu Abbaas who were even more tyrrannical and hostile and caused destruction and mayhem for the Shi’as and lovers of Ahl ul-Bayt (as)! Moreover, this was still propagated with certain pupils of Imam Ja’far us-Saadiq (as), whom the common masses accepted them as their Imaams!

The last category of relators are praised because they stood by Maulaana Ali (as) in thick and thin and related the Ahaadees word by word  and whose witness are the A’immat-e-Taahereen (as) and  Du’aat ul- Mutlaqeen (aq).  And the presence of Imaam-e-Aal-e-Mohammed Imaam uz-Zamaan (as)  is sufficient  to make us understand the truth of Hadees-e-Rasool, and his guidance and divine inspiration (ta’eed)  is there all the time  on our Naa’ib-e-Imaam-e-Aal-e-Taiyeb (as) Saiyedna Abu Haatim Taiyeb Ziyauddin Saheb (tus),  who utters the sayings  which are no less than the Rasoolullaah (saws)’ s utterances.  May Allaah Ta’aala shower his perpetual blessings and benevolence on us and keep us under the serene guidance of our Saiyedna Saheb (tus).
