Prophet Isaa's (AS) mother was Maulatana Maryam (AS), but he had no father. Allah says in the Holy Qur'an that the example of Prophet Isaa (AS) is just like that of Prophet Aadam (AS) - Allah created Isaa (AS) without a father, just like he created Aadam (AS) without a mother or father.

When Prophet Isaa (AS) was 30 years old, he received the command of Allah to begin his mission and the Divine Book, Injeel (Bible), was revealed to him. As a proof of his Prophet hood, Prophet Isaa (AS) possessed certain miracles. He could raise the dead to life, restore the eyesight of the blind and cure the lepers. These remarkable powers attracted the Jews to him and some became believers. The rest of them became his enemies.

From amongst the believers, Prophet Isaa (AS) chose twelve special men (Disciples). These men learnt directly from him and he told them to travel and to preach to the people according to the laws laid down in the Injeel.

The Jews who hated Prophet Isaa (AS) finally decided to kill him, and set about trying to find him. They bribed Yahuda (Judas) one of his disciples with thirty pieces of silver. He told them in which house Prophet Isaa (AS) was. The Jews wanted to arrest Prophet Isaa (AS) and crucify him by nailing his hands and feet onto a wooden cross.

At the time when his life was in danger, Prophet Isaa (AS) was raised by Allah to the heavens.

Meanwhile, Yahuda entered the house but found it empty. Allah changed his face so that he looked exactly like Prophet Isaa (AS). When he came out of the house to report to the Jews, he was shocked when they grabbed him and dragged him away. He swore that he was not Prophet Isaa (AS), but they did not believe him, and he was crucified.

The Jews and even the Christians thus say that Prophet Isaa (AS) was killed on the cross but the Holy Qur'an says about the Jews: They said (boastfully), "Verily we killed the Messiah, Isaa son of Mary, the Apostle of God, but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but it was made to appear to them (that they had). They certainly did not kill him. No, Allah raised him up to Himself; and Allah is Mighty, Wise." (4:157-158)
